Cloud Jumper....

From our original schematic design concept which we presented in week 3, we have since tried to further explore our design idea in a context that will both contribute to the dynamism of Geelong's urban center, and similarly stand to illuminate the teachings of a contemporary school of fashion. As a highly charged team with a strong sense of design individualism, this project has since presented us with an excellent learning opportunity to trial our concept theme of urban intimacy and color from an array of angles. Reflecting upon last weeks schematic submission though a times throughout its procurement there were occasions when team members we going to strangle one other, in hindsight i feel that as a design cohort we each complement one another. Many of the built forms which we have chosen to reshape and define have been composed from a web of creative interpretations....... A formula for creative success.

Week 03

The first week into the Deakin Design Institute assignment saw as analyzing the site. As a group, each individual analyzed different aspects of the site. I analyzed the site in terms of traffic movement, the type of existing building on the site, public and private spaces and density. These are some of my initial analytical drawings

Through the analysis a schematic masterplan was created, which reflected 11 key points or design principles that the group and I created. Our initial schematic masterplan that was presented in week two was based around these key design principles; not overshadowing public space, secondary street used as pedestrian access, defined edges, defining central hub, connection & interaction between different schools to avoid isolation, provide extinguished path between train/bus depot to school, maximize views to the bay, higher density to the south, gallery space in public space, preservation and addition to parklands and emphasis on historical buildings.

When drawing a masterplan for the new schools, the group and I based the whole design around the environmentally sustainable school being located in the centre with all the other schools around it. This gave the sense that the enviro building runs and generates all the other buildings. As a group we tried to not only work in plan but in section to give us a sense of the building spaces three dimensionally.

From the pin up last Tuesday our group is allocated the environmental and industrial design schools around the bender, that group 3 designed. We still have a long way to go to next Tuesday’s pin up but as a group we are working very well and hard to produce a design that would work.

Week 3... progress on the master plan

Here we work out a concise and functional plan to redevelop and work the proposed areas for the Deakin Design Institute. Planning is the key and a Saturday together as a group got the ball rolling. (Below Left).
On the left were some pictures and ideas of on-site energy creation for my part of research and development to link to the presentation.

Week 03: Choosing a Master (Plan)

Choosing a Master (Plan)

I smile when I think of Tuesday’s pin-ups. I remember all of our voices that were so excited by the sentences that they carried, and that were so nervous at the thought of the eyes – because the voices were outnumbered two-to-one.

The vision of the eyes and the confusion of the voices were sorted by the mind and put in their place. We now have one plan with four complex parts and one ‘master’. Strong in purpose, slightly stoic but very generous, ‘The Bender’ is the point of arrival and departure.

A creation of Group 03, The Bender unifies Group 01’s, “public space amalgamation of two schools”, with Group 02’s, “bleeding spaces” and “spines”. The Bender bows and accommodates the contradiction of Group 04’s, “interactive zoning of limited building footprints and compressed twelve person space.”

Fashion, industrial design, architecture, and multi-media; my eyes and ears are impressed with how our voices and actions have put the scheme together so quickly and so naturally. And now the pen and its mind must refocus.

my first day in Geelong...and my last day with some friends in Italy...
i add also the link of the myspace of my favourite italian pianist, i find it amazing hope that could help also your relaxing and designing time! http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=81112956
